We’ve Jumped London, But Can We Surf It?Posted on 03/09/08, filed under Adrenaline Shots | No Comments After talk early last year regarding the build of an indoor ‘Surfdome’ somewhere in the city of London, it seems the developers of Venture Xtreme have gone one better in proposing an open-air artificial break in the East London area of Silvertown Quays, Newham.
Planned for 2011, the complex will work by diverting water from the Thames and passing it though a large filter to create an area of safe and controllable surf, capable of producing consistent waves that roll for around 100m and have the potential to be 8ft in height. With the British Surfing Association estimating there to be around 500,000 surfers in the UK, project directors of the new London surf park are hoping to convince a proportion to grab their surfboards and try out Venture Xtreme’s congestion-free alternative to the beaches of the West Country, where overcrowding and territorial surfing are becoming more commonplace. Add to this the fact that decent surf is at least a 3 hour drive from the capital city, and more often than not it’s dead on arrival, there is certainly a strong argument for surfers to enjoy a little more reliability and convenience. You can expect to pay around £30 a time and early estimates state that you’ll get around 10 waves per session. Those in charge are quick to point out that this enterprise is not aimed at replacing the real thing but instead intended to supplement surfer’s time in the salt water and allow anyone to sharpen their skills whatever the weather, something we at Extreme Sports Trader agree with and can’t wait to try out ourselves. |

That’s really cool!!!!. Imagine the potential we have here, we need very little or no filters at all!!!.Imagine to build an aquadome in the St Lawrence sort of what they have in Japan that could open all year around. It could be surfed, kayaked… you name it. Anybody willing to put a bit of money??? jajaja. I offer consulting and I will name myself official test driver!!! |
I’d be happy if they would make it so the ice doesn’t get to the wave wait i have to go take a spychodelic trip in my van |

Time consuming, but nice once translucent
Yeap I saw this translucent board, realy cool, like a lehgo jajaja!!!!. The geometric design along the board ensures an extremily stiff board although you loose the “springy”feeling of it. Another innovation. Perfect for longboards, not so much for smalll high performance ones!!! |

I do Have the firewire 6’2’’ and the quadfish 5’10’’. I can only say but wonders about both boards!!! REally responsive and they push you right out of the turn!!!. I’ve been surfing the quadfishmore often lately. I love the groovy feeling of it, extremily buoyant but fast as well. The flexfire is an outstanding board to have on anybodys quiver and giving the fact that the one you’re thinking about is a quadfin set,it’s going to give you a looser feeling. A little recommendation, if you do get the quad, try to get the FCS H2 medium. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G fins due to the cant angle. It’s so loose on the turns…it will be a wonderful complement to that board. If money is not the issue, I’ll recommend the firewire above the Anakapa:better technology, more resistent, more performant (even though that for the river wave might not make much of a differnece). I hope I helped |
